Service Capacity Module
- The Service Capacity module builds your service plan from your existing job plans.
- The Service Capacity module then helps you build a rightsized service plan (in your existing job planning language) based on your expected patient demand and other responsibilities.
- The module compares your existing service plan with the rightsized service plan and calculates the capacity match and any capacity gap.
- It highlights areas of over and under capacity and helps a user redistribute their PAs from areas of overcapacity to undercapacity to minimise any capacity mismatch.
- The module also shows the additional capacity in FTEs and PAs that you would need to recruit to eliminate any residual capacity gap. It shows the cost savings associated with filling this gap with substantive staff rather than additional unplanned activity.
Typical costs of a capacity mismatch
- A 25 consultant department has average annual PA costs of £4 million (assuming 25 ftes).
- The required annual hours of capacity to meet patient demand is 28,000 (167 PAs) but the department only has PA capacity in the job plans of 25,200 hours (150 PAs) - a capacity match of 90%.
- The cost of plugging this capacity gap (2,800 hours) with additional unplanned activity is £560k (at an average cost of £200 per hour of unplanned activity).
